WSS vs MOSS web parts

Filed under: MOSS — stephenmuller @ 11:17 pm

I was trying to use the content query web part on a WSS site but found suprisingly that it does not exist. I found a good site as to what web parts are available in MOSS and WSS (as well as a compaarison with v2).

http://blogs.msdn.com/markarend/archive/2006/12/08/web-part-comparison-sps-2003-wss-v2-moss-2007-wss-v3.aspx

I really dont know why the content query webpart is not available especially sinceone can use content types in WSS (it seems to me). Can anyone explain this to me.

I suspect I will have to go to using Sharepoint designer to create something.

  1. Yes, I agree.

It is totally rediculous that the Content by Query Web Part is not available under WSS. I’ve designed several solutions in MOSS, and have grown to like that Web Part.

But evidently, it is used by the Publishing Assemblies only available in MOSS.

The question I would ask is why make it a Web Part if it doesn’t follow the Web Part design infrastructure capability of ASP.NET 2.0. They spent all that time re-writing Web Parts for MOSS, but we can’t use all of them.

THUMBS DOWN TO MICROSOFT for this one!
